Emetic
The morning after the night before
Emetic (ime·tik). 1657. [- Gr. emetikos, f. emetos vomiting, f. emein vomit; see -IC.]
A. adj. Having power to cause vomiting; fig. sickening, mawkish 1670. fig. Richardson. .in his e. history of Pamela 1770.
B. sb. A medicine that excites vomiting. Hence Eme·tical a. = EMETIC a., -ly adv.
It was the morning after the party and I woke up with a hangover. I also woke up on the landing. A couple had moved into my room with coital intentions and a Frenchman had moved into my head with the sole purpose of complaining.
What I wanted was a cure for my throbbing meninges. Instead I was given a smile and a glass of water by a pretty young temptress. Whilst not curing my hangover it did make me feel one hell of a lot better.
We'd run out of Nux Vom, a homeopathic medicine that's used for alleviating hangovers. Taking a couple of tablets will result in two things - either you'll feel fine and bounce back quite quickly, or you'll bounce back the previous evening's drinks and then feel fine.
Instead I took a Nurofen and spent most of the day whining and trying to piece together the events of the night before. It worked out fine in the end.
So that's what this place is: it's the morning after; it's the hangover cure; it's when you find out what you did the night before. Let's just hope it doesn't make you sick.
